Hydrogen Gas Sensor Integration for Battery Rooms

Alpais can integrate alarm status from a compatible external hydrogen gas detector into the battery monitoring system for battery rooms, enclosures and other stationary battery environments.

The hydrogen detector performs the gas sensing. Alpais receives the detector's configured alarm output through the Control Module and presents the resulting status within Alpais Battery Monitoring Software .

Important System Boundary

Alpais does not replace the hydrogen detector, ventilation system, gas-safety controller or site alarm system. The external detector is responsible for measuring hydrogen concentration and generating the configured alarm output. Alpais provides alarm collection, display, recording and notification within the battery monitoring platform.

Why Hydrogen Monitoring May Be Required in Battery Rooms

Certain battery technologies can release hydrogen during charging, overcharging or abnormal operating conditions. Whether gas detection is required depends on the battery technology, charging system, room volume, ventilation, battery quantity, operating conditions and the site's safety assessment.

A dedicated hydrogen detector can provide an alarm when the configured concentration threshold is reached. Integrating that alarm with Alpais allows battery-condition data and environmental alarm status to be reviewed through the same monitoring interface.

Hydrogen Detector Connection to Alpais

A compatible hydrogen detector or gas-safety controller can provide a relay or dry-contact output when its configured alarm condition is reached. This status signal is connected to an available input on the Alpais Control Module.

The selected detector, output type, power supply and interface wiring must be confirmed during project engineering. Direct compatibility should not be assumed without reviewing the detector datasheet and Control Module input requirements.

Monitoring and Alarm Notification

When the external detector changes its alarm-contact state, the Alpais Control Module processes the input and transfers the status to the software. A hydrogen alarm can then be displayed in the interface, recorded in the event history and included in email notifications sent to registered users.

Because this is a status-based integration, the Alpais interface normally shows the detector's alarm condition rather than a continuously measured hydrogen concentration value. Display of an actual concentration value would require a separately confirmed detector output and communication architecture.

Sensor Quantity and Installation Location

The required number and location of hydrogen detectors cannot be defined as one sensor per system or one sensor per battery room in every project. The design should consider room dimensions, ceiling height, ventilation pattern, possible gas-release points, detector coverage, battery layout and the applicable site safety requirements.

Detector mounting height, enclosure protection, calibration requirements and maintenance access must follow the selected detector manufacturer's instructions and the project's gas-detection engineering.

Hazardous-Area and Enclosure Considerations

An IP rating such as IP65 describes enclosure protection against dust and water; it does not by itself establish suitability for an explosive atmosphere. Where the installation location is classified as hazardous, the detector, enclosure, cable glands, wiring method and complete installation must be selected for the applicable hazardous-area requirements.

Integration with Battery and Room Monitoring

Hydrogen alarm status can be viewed together with battery voltage, internal resistance, battery temperature, string measurements and other configured environmental inputs.
